Join AWS members for a fabulously fun, artistic and educational experience with everyone's favourite Art Historian, Millie Knight. The group meets on 12 different Mondays throughout the year between October and March and follows Millie through an enthralling and mesmerising adventure into the world of Art History.

Millie is a graduate of the prestigious Courtauld Institute and has been leading lectures with AWS for the past 8 years. She trained as an Art Historian and now works as a lecturer at the Courtauld Gallery and Kingston University. She has extensive experience and knowledge of artworks at the National Gallery, the Wallace Collection, V&A, Tate and more. She will be introducing new audiences from around the world to what London’s art galleries have to offer, while providing behind the scene insights and picking out some of her favourite lesser known works. This is Millie’s 9th lecture series with AWS.

Intrigued about the beautiful and meditative art of calligraphy? Tired of photos that don’t live up to your vision? Are you a creative novice eager to learn? Or perhaps you’re a seasoned expert.  Regardless of your level of expertise, we offer workshops throughout the year to all of our members designed to teach new skills and hone existing ones. Offerings this year so far include mobile phone photography, cooking, floral design, and brush calligraphy.

Most projects are completed in one session, making it easy to dive into a new hobby. Check our calendar for upcoming events, and be sure to sign up early as space may be limited in some classes. Don't miss out on the chance to explore your creativity with us!

A Book with a View

Indulge in the Joy of Reading!

If you love snuggling up with a good book, then "A Book with a View" is the perfect group for you! This is a light-hearted and enjoyable gathering for book enthusiasts. Each month, we delve into a different author's work, whether modern or classic, British or International. Join us for exciting and enjoyable meetings where we share our perspectives, listen to others, laugh together, and most importantly, make new friends through our shared love of literature! 

You can expect engaging discussions with plenty of thought-provoking questions that bring out the essence of the story and explore the author's message. Valentina, the group leader, will select meeting spots so be sure to check regularly for calendar updates.

Urban Hikes

Explore some of the best of London… on foot!

Join a group of AWS members for an exploration of some of the most gorgeous areas of London and get in some steps on the way.  Past Urban Walks have included Royal Parks, Hampstead Heath and Wisteria Walk in Kensington.  Keep up to date by checking the activities calendar regularly for this year’s destinations.

English Hikes with Houses and Gardens

Explore the Breathtaking English Countryside and discover England's Historic Treasures and Beautiful Gardens!

Embark on wonderful and historic adventures with us as we visit famous English manors, historic houses, charming cottages, and quirky dwellings set amidst gorgeous parks and stunning English gardens.

Join Katie, our group leader and avid hiker, for picturesque walks through the English countryside and a memorable exploration of England’s rich architectural heritage and lush green spaces!. Katie will guide us on both new trails and beloved favorites in locations such as Dorking, Guildford, Cobham, and beyond. Don't forget your camera to capture the stunning views along the way!

Our hikes typically last around 2 hours, wrapping up around noon. All experience levels are welcome, and we hike in any weather—so investing in good hiking gear and waterproofs is recommended for your time in England.We often stop for coffee or even lunch after the hike for those that want to join.  Prepare to be dazzled by these beautiful locations.
